This job provides plant operation support to the Alsip Latex Plant.  The successful candidate will be required to work a 12 hour rotating shift schedule.  The candidate will train with other Plant Operators and learn assigned plant areas in accordance with norms established by the team. 


Truck Loader/Unloader:  the main duties of this position is loading tank trucks of latex or unloading tank trucks of soap. In one shift an operator will likely load 10 trucks and occasionally unload one. Some of the work is done outside in the weather. 
Physical requirements of this job are as follows:
  - Ability to read and follow loading instructions.
  - Simple math skills in order to read level devices and calculate amounts of materials to be loaded.
  - Climbing up and down one flight of stairs to reach to top of the truck.
  - Opening and closing the dome lid of the truck.  The dome has wing nuts that need to be loosened or tightened requiring significant wrist torque. 


Filter Room Operator:  the filter room operator is responsible for running filtration machines. 
The physical requirements of the job are as follows:
  - Ability to read and follow filtering instructions.
  - Simple math skills in order to read level devices and calculate amounts of materials to be transferred into tanks.
  - Scooping scrap latex off the top of the filter screens.  The filters are about four feet tall and the operator must use a one-gallon scoop to scrap the material off the screen and dump it into a drum.
  - Water blasting the filter room floor to clean it.  This requires wearing a rubber suit and face shield.  The water-blasting lance is long and awkward to hold and the pressure requires that the operator brace himself when using it.
  - Stretching filter screens onto frame. This requires some strength in the hands and wrist torque. 
  - Clamping filter tubs onto the machine.


Laboratory/Computer Duties:  The laboratory/ SAP operator is required to run all quality control tests on production and shipping samples.  Also generate all paperwork through the computer for shipments. 
The requirements of the job are as follows:
  - Standing at a lab bench for over 50% of the time on shift.
  - Manual dexterity for using lab equipment including pipettes.
  - Mathematical skills including simple arithmetic.
  - Reading ability to check paperwork.
  - Computer skills including entering detailed information into the system.


Hazardous Material Handling
  - Unloading Railcars and Tank Trucks of monomers
  - Unloading Bulk Tank Trucks of Acid for waste water
  - Transferring Ammonia Hydroxide Totes into a storage tank
  - Charging the Caustic Small Parts Cleaner

Note:  The responsibilities listed are not all inclusive and there may be other tasks operators will be responsible to complete.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  - Must be willing to train others.
  - Possess a valid State Driver’s License.
  - HS Diploma/GED required.  Previous chemical experience and computer skills preferred.
  - Be able to drive a forklift.
  - Lifting 35 lb buckets or 50 lb bags, carrying them approximately 10 feet to stack onto a pallet.
  - Making hose connections, attaching hoses with clamps, opening and closing valves, sampling and adjusting waste water.
  - This job requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime.
  - This job will require working a 12-hour rotating shift.
