The Mechanical Integrity Specialist is responsible for the site Mechanical Integrity (MI) Program to include, but not limited to the following:

  • Develop & Implement an overall strategy for sustaining a comprehensive Fixed Equipment Inspection Plan for the plant.  Fixed Equipment includes Tanks, Pressure Vessels, Safety Relief Devices and Utility/Process Piping.
  • Coordinate the various fixed equipment inspection plans with the production units to complete these inspections in a safe and timely manner.
  • Inspections will follow, but are not limited to, the following API Standards -510, 570, 572, 574, 575, 653, 650, 620 and B31.3 guidelines, also the “Mechanical Integrity Plan for Mobile Alabama”.
  • Responsibilities also include review of Safety Critical PSV/PSE inspection reports and adjustment of PM frequencies as required insuring safety devices are maintained in a safe and reliable operating condition.
  • Maintains data collected and formal reports from inspections within the site information systems (DMAPS, SAP PM) and equipment files as appropriate.  Utilizes thickness readings, other relative inspection data and report findings/recommendations to help develop RBI (Risk Based Inspection) strategy to further optimize inspection frequencies.
  • Fully participates and supports all AIMS Audits recommendations relative to the site MI Program.
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability in adhering to EHS policies and expectations including proper communication, documentation, work practices, and procedures.
  • Overall responsibility for managing safe and quality execution of both planned and emergency inspection/repairs to fixed equipment as part of plant MI Program and in accordance with plant budgeting requirements.
  • Requisitioning of non-stores maintenance related equipment, tools, parts and materials to support MI inspections/repairs in accordance with the plant budget. 
  • Requisitioning of OEM/Vendor outside services to support MI inspection/repairs to plant fixed equipment.  
  • Provides input on costs and timing of MI inspections for plant budgeting and shutdown scheduling processes.
  • Participates in routine planning/scheduling meetings to support the workflow process and provide input on MI inspections/repairs for Production priorities. 

Additional Job Dimension Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as Op/Maintenance Coordinator and Planner/Scheduler/Storeroom Supervisor on an interim basis as needed to cover vacancies due to vacation, training, etc.  Experience, Knowledge and Skills capabilities to effectively coordinate and manage the safe execution of tasks performed by maintenance mechanics and technicians. 
  • Ability to properly scope, plan, schedule and procure necessary parts, materials, tools and equipment to support maintenance personnel in completing required maintenance tasks.
  • Experienced in troubleshooting problematic issues with rotating equipment throughout the plant to determine cause and correction.  Adept at researching OEM and supplier resources to help identify safe, innovative and reliable solutions to equipment problems.
  • Visit other Arkema plants to leverage skills, best practices to help them develop and implement effective MI programs for their fixed equipment and piping. 


The Mechanical Integrity Specialist will ensure the site is compliant under PSM regulations for PSM-covered equipment and API standards for tanks, pressure vessels, safety relief devices and utility/process piping. 


The Mechanical Integrity Specialist will interact with other disciplines such as safety, environmental, production, administrative, shift leaders, process technicians, control technicians, engineers, designers, other mechanics, I&E technicians, planner/scheduler, storeroom clerks, etc., to accomplish the above job dimensions.



Context and environment

The context and environment for this position will be plant-wide.  External mechanical integrity support for other Arkema sites will be required as needed. Approximately 25% travel required.


The Mechanical Integrity Specialist is responsible for the MI Program at the plant site.

Qualifications/experience required

  • High School Diploma. 
  • 3-5 years experience in maintenance environment, preferably in chemical manufacturing with responsibilities in Mechanical Integrity.
  • API Certifications 510, 570 & 653 as required by PSM are mandatory and familiarity preferred with other API standards such as 572, 574, 575, 650, 620.
  • Level I NDT certification for UT, PT, MT and VT inspections.
  • Working knowledge and experience with use of standard MS Office software products and specialty software used to track/manage MI inspections data such as SAP PM & DMAPS.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and share MI best practices and program expectations with other Arkema plants.
  • Knowledge, Experience & Troubleshooting Skills to include, but not limited to :
    • preventive/predictive maintenance practices & technologies
    • boilers, chillers, compressors, exchangers, pumps, gear reducers, agitators, plant water systems, tanks, pressure vessels, safety relief devices, piping
    • rigging, fabrication, welding
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated and ability to work well in a team environment.
