Based at Arkema's Mobile, AL manufacturing facility, the North American (NA) Quality and Tolling Specialist is responsible for the quality management of the Kepstan (PEKK) product line.  Kepstan production will start in Mobile, AL in Q4 2018.  The site is ISO 9001 certified and one of the main market for this product is the aerospace industry.  Participating in the customer complaint process and leading the continuous improvement process are two key missions for this role.  Some grades of Kepstan are tolled.  Onboarding and maintaining a pool of qualified tollers, as well as managing the processes and product quality are also key elements of the role.  The NA Quality and Tolling Specialist works in partnership with the production team, QC labs, business management, supply chain, sales force, customer service, R&D, process technology and industrial management.


Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):


Quality (60%)

  • Follow processes, systems and procedures to record, investigate and respond to customer complaints based on direction from the Supply Chain and Plant Management.
  • Analyze quality data and develop QC reports which quantify quality performance at plant and tolling facilities.
  • Proactively analyze production and quality data to ensure in-process production is within specification.
  • Work with Mobile manufacturing and laboratory and tollers to determine root cause and corrective actions for complaints and excursions from planned production.
  • Propose and implement quality indicators to be used to monitor Kepstan quality.
  • Recommend enhancements to systems, processes and procedures to capture, organize and report product quality and tolling data.
  • Participate in a QC management team that will review quality and production/tolling results on a monthly basis.
  • Suggest methods that can be implemented for the continuous improvement of product quality and productivity.
  • Work with the Supply Chain Manager to establish best practices for Kepstan quality and tolling operations in the US and coordinate to document them.
  • Coordinate and participate in the ISO 9001 certification for Kepstan in Mobile.


Product stewardship (30%)

  • Work with business management to implement methods to better match customer requirements to available products and specifications.
  • Manage the final release of lots in coordination with the Supply Chain and Business Managers.
  • Coordinate with Asia and Europe on standards, product specifications and tolling.


Tolling management (10%)

  • Work with Supply Chain Manager to establish formal procedures for researching, qualifying and choosing tollers complete with performance and quality expectations.
  • Work closely with business management to research and qualify tollers in conjunction with HES (2 existing, representing ~5% of production).



  • High school diploma required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience required
  • Prior experience in a chemical industry quality control (QC) environment is preferred.
  • Prior chemical production experience in a chemical manufacturing plant is preferred.
  • Root cause analysis experience is highly desired.
  • Lean Six Sigma Training preferred.
  • Demonstrated project management and project implementation skills are required.
  • Strong communications skills, including technical writing skills.
  • Maintain a reputation for being unbiased in all analysis and recommendations. 
  • Must be a self-started and capable decision maker.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
