The Beaumont Plant is located in Southeast Texas about 30 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico and is about one hour drive east of Houston.  Our facility is responsible for the production of methyl mercaptan, ethyl mercaptan, dimethly sulfide (DMS) and methylmercaptoproprionaldehyde (MMP).


Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for a Piping and CAD Designer to support our Beaumont facility.  This position directly reports to the Capital Project Team Lead and will coordinate with Plant Engineers and Inspectors.  The Piping Designer will provide functional guidance to all outside contract Designers, Engineers, Project Managers and CAD Technicians.



Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Piping Design

  • Develop piping layouts, take field dimensions, shoot nozzle locations, generate piping isometric drawings with material take-offs using appropriate piping specification and engineering practices, develop QA/QC documentation, field check piping fabrication and final installations.
  • Generate and review AutoCAD drawings, including Piping and Instrument Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams, Piping Isometric (ISO) drawings, Inspection ISOs, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Instrument and Electrical Drawings, Plot Plans, etc. to maintain current status for in-plant use and contract engineering projects.
  • Manage and interface with contract Engineering/Piping Design/CAD personnel supporting plant projects to ensure consistency of plant engineering standards and industry practices.  Coordinate field construction and piping fabrication/installation.
  • Update the Beaumont plant valve, piping and bolting specifications.  Revise engineering project and drawing files, project data books, asset files, etc. as necessary in support of Plant projects.
  • Participate in the development of piping Bill of Materials (BOMs) for various Maintenance and Project improvements.
  • Execute, manage and support small Engineering, Maintenance and Mechanical Integrity (MI) projects while also assisting MI during vacation coverage with closing inspection reports.
  • Interacts with other employees, interfaces with all plant personnel and other departments.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment with employees of all levels in the organization.
  • Working knowledge of Arkema Inc. Engineering standards, Plant PSM, PIP Industry Standards and Maintenance Best Practices.  Also, must be familiar with ISA, SIEE, AWS, ANSI drawings and Symbol standards
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents.
  • Provide leadership and show a high degree of self-motivation and initiative.


Job qualifications and requirements:

  • Associates of Applied Science Degree in Computer Aided Drafting Technology. 
  • 3-7 years’ experience in piping and AutoCAD design with industrial piping plant design drawings.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in field checking design drawings in the Hydrocarbon/Chemical Process Industries.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2014, Microsoft Office and Plotter’s hardware architecture and functionality.
  • Must have working knowledge of codes and standards such as ASME and API standards. 
  • Organized, methodical and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task, problem solve and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Manage projects simultaneously.
  • Work well in a team environment as well as independently.
