Arkema Inc. is actively recruiting for a Shift Supervisor in our Birdsboro plant. The Shift Supervisor will report directly to the Production Superintendent. <span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;">An hourly production shift will report directly to this position (approximately seven employees).

Responsible for all shift operations and employees.  Direct plant activities in order to achieve plant goals in health, safety, environmental, quality, productivity and cost effectiveness.  Coordinate all efforts to ensure an injury-free plant site.

 

Key Activities and responsibilities

Safety 30%

  • Assume emergency coordinator in all instances of a plant emergency.  Direct combined assets of emergency team toward evaluation of incident and recovery from emergency conditions.  First Aid/CPR certification required.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership- ensure shift employees follow all safety procedures.  This includes utilization of required personal protective equipment (PPE), and full knowledge and administration of high risk procedures.
  • Actively support the Behavioral Based Safety Training (BEST)
  • Conduct safety meetings as required
  • Hold shift employees accountable for housekeeping and safety of their respective areas.
  • Reinforce expectations for process discipline through use of all required tools (daily operating instructions, process data sheets, LIMS, OSI/PI, etc.).
  • Perform accident/incident investigations and complete related computer entries.  Lead teams in performing complex investigations as required.
  • Evaluate and document non-routine task evaluations as needed.

Production 30%

  • Front-line assistance in troubleshooting of production problems.  Work with support personnel to resolve as needed.
  • Maintains turnover log and provides explanation for production variances.
  • Manage all daily reports as required
  • Prepare production blend sheets for finishing department.  Manage material usage variances (MUV) and blocked stock.
  • Ability to perform QC testing as needed for viscosity, extractables, yellowness index and visual impurities.
  • Assist in monthly accounting close by review and closure of production paperwork as needed.
  • Provide training as required (for example, LOTO)

Leadership 40%

  • Mentoring and coaching of shift employees in order to meet plant goals.
  • Utilize disciplinary action as required to enforce policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the management team, peers and subordinates.
  • Shape behavior of the workforce by implementing standards of safety, quality and standard operating procedures.  Reinforce all employees’ efforts in the preparation of standard documents.
  • Understands shift priorities and allocates resources as needed to achieve plant goals.
  • Fill in as backup to the Production Superintendent as required.
  • Responsible for the management of payroll for all production shift employees.

 

Context and environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • Must be able to work a rotating shift schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays)

 

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • HS Diploma or GED required
  • Two year technical degree or 5-7 years of experience in a production environment
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience required
  • Proficient knowledge and use of computer systems
  • SAP knowledge preferred
