Job Title: Lead Plant Environmental Engineer

SITUATION IN ORGANIZATION

(LIST THE TITLE TO WHOM THIS JOB REPORTS, DIRECT AND INDIRECT REPORTS (BY TITLE), MATRIX RELATIONSHIPS, ETC.)

This position reports to the Environmental Manager within the Environmental Department. Peers include other Environmental Engineers. Field and technical management of environmental engineering contractors will be required.

JOB DIMENSIONS

Responsible for implementing, coordinating, and maintaining Calvert City plant air permitting programs and activities to ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal laws and regulations and Corporate standards. Participates in other environmental and non-environmental plant activities as needed to improve performance in areas of safety, environmental, reliability, and cost control.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(INCLUDE % OF TIME (USING RANGES) FOR EACH ITEM NEXT TO EACH ACTIVITY, TOTALING TO 100%; USE INCREMENTS OF 10% AND HIGHER; BALANCE OF SMALLER ITEMS CAN FALL INTO "OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED")

Interact and communicate with Local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies including the preparation and submission of Title V air permit renewals and modifications. (25%)

Keep current with constantly changing laws, regulations, and corporate guidelines; Provide guidance to the site in the interpretation, implementation, and training associated with these requirements (20 %)

 Coordinate the facility’s LDAR program. (15%)

Prepare and submit timely monitoring, performance, and compliance reports including notifications of releases, permit excursions, etc., to all applicable agencies and Corporate HES. (10%)

Participate in plant activities to maintain ISO 9000, ISO 14001, ISO45001, and Arkema Internal certifications. (5%)

Conduct internal audits/inspections to ensure compliance with all Local, State and Federal laws, permits, and regulations, as well as Corporate and Plant standards and procedures. (5%)

 Prepare environmental reviews for plant engineering projects. (5%)

 Coordinate stack testing activities per environmental requirements. (5%)

 Conduct environmental sampling as necessary. (5%)

Conduct other environmental activities as necessary. (5%)

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

Ensures compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and policies related to HES.

Ensures compliance with Arkema Inc. company policies & procedures.

Identifies HES issues and recommends corrective actions (procedural, capital, etc.).

Recommends environmental contractors and consulting services as needed to support or improve plant processes. Ensures timely reporting of releases to agencies. The incumbent works with the Environmental Manager, environmental and safety engineers, project engineers, and process supervisors/managers/engineers to develop and apply environmental programs, reports, and permits and with all plant employees to provide training needed as a result of these requirements. Externally, the incumbent works with the KY Department for Environmental Protection, various engineering consulting and waste disposal firms, and the Federal EPA.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

(INCLUDE DEGREE ATTAINED AND SPECIALTY OF EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES, YEARS AND TYPE OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE, SYSTEMS PROFICIENCY, ETC.)

This position requires a minimum of a B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, or other related technical field. A minimum of ten years of environmental engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is also required. Good interpersonal communication, technical writing, computer and public speaking skills are crucial. The ability to read and develop a good understanding of environmental regulations is required.
