This position reports directly to the Maintenance Operations Manager.  Peers include various production and maintenance supervisors.  Subordinates include (8) hourly craftsmen.

Job dimensions

Responsible for the supervision of the hourly work force in his charge.  Duties include:  communication and adherence of plant policies, monitor and enhance craftsmen productivity, and interface with various levels of supervision and management with concerns of plant equipment or personnel issues.  Provide off shift, weekend, and holiday emergency maintenance supervision 3 to 4 weeks per year.  Provide turnaround maintenance supervision in area of responsibility when required.

Key Activities and responsibilities
  • Reviews work order backlog with appropriate operations supervisors to establish the priority of the repair.  20%
  • Coordinates with the operations supervisor to ensure that the jobs are ready to be manned. 15%
  • Reviews and analyzes the work orders to ensure the work described may be completed efficiently and safely.  15%
  • Leads and motivates maintenance craftsmen to provide superior service in support of plant operations activities.  15%
  • Ensures preventive/predictive work is completed and mechanical integrity findings are addressed timely. 15%
  • Conducts planning and scheduling meetings as required to efficiently provide maintenance job plans and schedules. 5%
  • Provide feedback on the work performed to operations and maintenance engineering so the repairs can be documented and analyzed. 5%
  • Develops annual outage plans in coordination with Operations supervisors. 5%
  • Conducts meaningful safety meetings and supports the plant’s safety process (BST). 5%
  • Ensures activities support the Arkema Integrated Management System (AIMS).
  • Ensures activities within area of responsibility contribute to achieving the plant and department targets, goals, and objectives.
  • Communicates information as required to ensure all company provided information relevant to the craftsmen’s employment is received and understood.
  • Contacts suppliers for MRO parts and plant supplies.
  • Maintain Hazwopper Certification required for emergency response participation.
  • Maintain Scaffold Inspector certification to ensure safely erected scaffolding.
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement/Reliability projects to reduce maintenance/operating costs.







Context and environment


The incumbent works with the plant supervisors and managers to ensure the resources within his control are properly allocated to ensure maximum plant reliability within budgetary requirements.

The incumbent must comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety, environmental, and quality standards, and corporate policies.

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience


  • High school education  (Basic skills: reading, writing, grammar, math)
  • Technical school or courses which will enforce weaker areas.
  • Minimum 10 years hands-on (pipefitter, machinist, electrician or similar)
  • Minimum 5 years in supervision.


Demonstrated Competencies

  • Ability to manage projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to tailor communications to level of audience.

Ability to maintain good labor relations, including compliance with the IAM and Teamsters agreements.

  • Model and participate in safety improvement. ASR/ CATS observations / AST follow-ups are completed as required.
