The Fluorochemical Supply Chain Organization is responsible for developing and executing an operating plan that will meet the service expectations of the commercial functions at the lowest possible cost.  It is also responsible for developing tools and procedures to optimize the entire supply chain process from forecasting to product delivery.  

This position is responsible for providing supply chain support for the Fluorochemicals BU.   The role reports to the Fluorochemical S&OP Manager and interfaces with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Purchasing, Sales and Customer Service.

The Demand Specialist position will be responsible for leading Fluorochemical package production scheduling and product distribution throughout the supply chain, while improving processes, asset utilization and reducing working capital.  This position will interface with all Business functions, the Corporate Supply Chain Team, Customer Service Sales, Marketing, IT, Purchasing, Finance, etc.  A good working relationship with the Calvert City plant, Sales, and Customer Service as well as the ability to work and share with other business units is required.


Key Activities

  • Responsible for managing the packaging production plan for Calvert City plant in line with the S&OP.  This role is expected to participate in the weekly and monthly S&OP meetings.  This role develops and communicates the production schedule (blending and packaging) to plant, upload the production schedule to SAP weekly, and uses tools in SAP to ship production to and from plants/distribution points.  Point person for DFL for all Fluorochemical packaging issues.
  • Responsible for managing all activities with Fluorochemicals warehousing network.  Manage inventory at warehouses for volume, age, quality, etc.  Provide technical support for SAP and direction for inventory management to warehouses.  Instruct on SAP transactions required for receipt and shipping.  Visit and conduct annual physical inventories at each warehouse, current package inventory is over 24M$.  Reconcile warehouse inventories to SAP monthly.  Conduct basic warehouse network review for optimum distribution.  Audit and process invoices related to fixed and variable warehouse storage, representing an annual spend of ~ $1.5M annually.  Coordinate with Central Logistics to ensure trucking needs are met.
  • Responsible for data management of Fluorochemicals packaged materials.  This includes new materials, plants, or storage locations and clean-up of existing data as necessary. Maintain MRP settings for Fluorochemicals package materials.  
  • Compile data for warehouse supply chain KPIs.  Support other supply chain and customer services KPIs, such as complaint resolution for customer complaints, OTS, OTIF (on time delivery in full). 
  • Manage the cylinder returnable cylinder fleet to ensure inspections are done and that purchases are made in a timely fashion.  This involves standards, tons, and half tons, low and high pressure, and all refrigerant grades for a seasonal business. 
  • Daily management of the Transportation Management System to ensure optimized logistics costs for material movements.
  • Place requisitions for specified raw materials/components (including but not limited to disposable cylinders).


Context and Environment

  • The Demand Specialist will be located at the Calvert City plant.  Periodic travel may be required to Corporate Headquarters, to warehouse/terminal sites, training, and conferences.  Travel is expected to be <15% of the time. 
  • This position is afforded a significant amount of independence in the execution of the S&OP plan while meeting the business objectives of optimizing our customer service and minimizing associated costs while adhering to the annual budget. The position is subject to constraints and guidelines of corporate accounting policies, HES policies, Logistic Carrier and Warehouse policies, the Responsible Care Program and Federal Anti-trust legislation, etc.
  • The person in this position will be required to apply the direction of the business S&OP to SAP for the execution of production, as well as procurement and distribution of raw materials, intermediates and finished product.
  • It is expected that the person in this position will actively look for opportunities to improve any part manufacturing, the supply chain process and work with the appropriate resources.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business logistics, engineering, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in supply chain related field.
  • A working knowledge of the business processes related to order requisitions, purchase orders, stock transfers, batch management of inventory, production, shipping and product importation is required.
  • Strong proficiency with computer systems including experience with SAP and Microsoft Suite.
  • Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
  • Good interpersonal skills are important since the position requires interfacing with multiple organizations.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Coordinating multiple activities at the same time is required.  The ability to prioritize is critical.
