The Quality Manager, reporting directly to the HSEQ Manager, supervises all aspects of the Quality Control Lab operations, working with and through the Lab Chemists. Activities may include:

  • Performs all responsibilities as identified in the Lab Chemist I and Lab Chemist II positions.
  • Supervises all Lab Chemists- directs and develops to run the laboratory independently and assist as required.  This includes assisting with the development of goals.
  • Manages training of the Lab Chemists on new procedures developed.
  • Assists coordinating plant ISO & AIMS certification activities such as: scheduling and participation of ISO audits, management reviews, maintains quality related databases (such as CCARs, PCARs and out of spec batches), and acts as a plant ISO/AIMS resource.  Coordination includes working with the facility & B.U. to schedule external & internal audits.
  • Creates and uses SPC charts in the evaluation of final product and raw material specifications.  Actively participates in the plant SPC, SQC program.
  • Ensures lab area ISO documentation is maintained.
  • Reviews and signs applicable PSM documentation for the Quality department. 
  • Responsible for the purchase, installation, verification, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all laboratory instrumentation and supplies. This includes the coordination of service contracts, preventive maintenance, etc. Responsibilities may be delegated to knowledgeable Lab Chemists.
  • Serves as a member of and may lead the Quality Team.
  • Provides analytical support for internal and external customers as well as tolling and resale activities.
  • Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all quality control test methods, development of new methods (as necessary with coordination with West Chester’s Methods Development Chemist), and implementation of new methods.
  • Ensures test methodologies in use meet or exceed desired method precision and accuracy.
  • Actively participates in safety related activities (PPE usage, Emergency response, MOCs, BBS, JSA, Incident reporting and Investigation, etc.)
  • Responsible for the safe operation of the QC laboratory
  • Coordinating with Sartomer’s Global Quality Manager, evaluates QC and production data by product and identifies potential continual improvements.
  • Responsible for scheduling/prioritizing workloads in accordance to manufacturing production and shipping schedules. The QC supervisor will be the first line of communication between manufacturing and the QC  department.


The position is located in a manufacturing environment with Chemical, physical, ergonomic and electrical hazards.  While work is primarily performed in the lab, worker is subject to atmospheric conditions including, but not limited to, exposure to dust, chemicals and odors.  Works with or around hazardous substances that will require use of protective clothing and equipment.


The successful candidate:

  • Holds a BS in Chemistry or equivalent experience with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an analytical laboratory
  • Is familiar with analytical techniques such as:
    • NIR, HPLC, GC, FTIR, autotitrators
    • Industrial chemical processes
  • Is proficient in the use of Microsoft office, LIMS management systems a plus
  • Is a team player readily  sharing information and knowledge.
