The Maintenance Mechanic performs mechanical maintenance of all chemical plant process equipment and minor repairs to buildings and grounds. Other job responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Inspect and repair all buildings and grounds, including underground services
  • Repair, install, modify and service all plant equipment
  • Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance
  • Updates planner/scheduler with job status and completes documentation of work order status
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Meets work demands according to Daily/Weekly Maintenance schedule
  • Follows job package, repair procedures, and plant safety procedures
  • Understand, execute and follow all life critical procedures in the execution of maintenance activities.
  • Executes all tasks necessary as assigned to support plant operations
  • Tests all work for proper operation prior to turnover to production.
  • Maintains a clean, organized shop and clean design practices during day to day work activities
  • Drives a forklift and operates lift equipment (boom, scissor lift) as needed
  • Supports Loss Control policy, AIMS, ISO 9001 and OHSAS 18001 management systems.


Maintains proficiencies in the following areas:

  • Use of power equipment (power hand tools, grinders, drill press, saws, press)
  • Pipefitting(layout, piping codes, material selection, pressure testing, fabrication, threading, bending, installation)
  • Rigging (international flagging techniques, proper sling selection/use, developing lifting plans)
  • Rotating equipment (couplings, alignment, oil change, belt  and bearing replacement)
  • Pumps (change oil, replace seals, installation, rebuilding, operation characteristics of multiple types)
  • Agitators (change oil, troubleshoot, installation)
  • Conveyor Systems
  • Fabrication (reading prints, developing isometric drawings, follow engineering standards)
  • Reading and understanding equipment drawings, manuals, and documentation
  • Relief Device Inspection and replacement


Qualifications/Experience Required

  • HS Diploma and 5+ years of experience in industrial maintenance; prefer chemical manufacturing. 
  • General mechanical, electrical, welding and fabrication experience.
  • Basic skills in MS Office; knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Must be available to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and after hours call outs
  • Must be able to perform elevated work on scaffolding and aerial lifts (JLG, scissor lifts) 
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and be able to enter confined spaces
