Commercial Development Engineer  – North America


Situation in organization

Reports directly to the Commercial Director of the North America.


Job dimensions

◦Commercial Development Engineer will be responsible nationally for identifying, developing and commercializing new business opportunities within key growth markets (hunter) for the Sartomer business in North America.
◦The position requires a very strong customers (C1) / customers’ customer (C2) and or end users interactions, and frequent travel in North America and possibly overseas.  This will require interaction with existing, as well as, new customer base.
◦The position includes both marketing and technical components: the successful candidate needs to  determine/understand the market / customer needs, identify and communicate the value proposition both within Sartomer as well externally to customers, end users, OEM’s, Industry leaders and trade associations, this person will work closely with Business, BDI and R&D managers to develop and execute the agreed product development and market development plan accordingly. He/she defines, executes and/or requests the right level of technical service to support his/her activity and proposes new product development projects through the Sartomer NPD process.
◦He/She aligns their actions with the overall business strategy.


Key Activities and responsibilities
Business development activity (North Americas) 80%

Develop/execute development strategies in selected markets/segments of focus which includes :
◦Explore, Identify and develop new market / application opportunities
◦Drive customer / market development through to full commercialization
◦Determine, evaluate the value chain and competitive environment
◦Define, execute or request the right level of technical service required to support the business development activity
◦Create and quantify market pull to propose and possibly drive new Product Development projects under Sartomer NPD process.
•Marketing / communication activities 10%
◦Trade shows representation
◦In collaboration with the business and marketing teams and as appropriate: propose and implement branding strategies

•Reporting / internal communication and processes 10%
◦Use Arkema CRM system to support and report activity (Call reports, samples/tech service requests etc)
◦Write monthly activity reports
◦Deliver activity summary presentations to peers and upper management (Project portfolio reviews, sales meetings…)



Context and environment
◦Sartomer Americas BU is a truly global organization, with manufacturing and commercial operations in all major regions. ◦Frequent travels (up to 50%) in North America and possibly overseas.
◦Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
◦Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
◦Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents


Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience  
◦Technical / business degree (BS minimum, MS, strong background in chemistry or material sciences is   preferred) 
◦Industry experience in Coating, UV cure, Adhesives, graphic arts is preferred.
◦MBA is a plus.
◦Minimum of 6 years of experience, experience in R&D and or Technical Service role is an advantage industry preference in the coatings/adhesives/sealants fields.
◦Experience in Marketing, field Sales and/or Market Development is a requirement
