Job dimensions

This job exists to lead site engineering projects and the implementation of the capital plan budget, assess respective process safety management (PSM) compliance, contribute to process stability and improvements for the Grand Rapids facility as well as support the BU program initiatives as needed.

Activities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Process Optimization/Facility Improvements: Develop and design new equipment and/or processes to improve the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. Provide early stage project evaluation (Front End Loading) including layout, cost estimates, engineering feasibility and engineering bid packages for management review.

Project Management: Prepare capital project scopes and schedules, including cost estimates to support the production needs of the plant while staying within the project budget and overall capital plan.  Prepare bid documents and review contractors to ensure they meet or exceed scope requirements. Manage and direct contractors used for the execution of capital projects. 

Plant Engineering: Provide engineering support in the design, operation, and maintenance of plant processes, equipment, and facilities.  Develop, maintain and update site P&IDs, drawings, flow diagrams, and other respective PSI information.  Conduct and/or participate in all MOC, PHA, and PSSR meetings. 

Environmental: Actively support and follow the requirements of the environmental management system.  Assist in ensuring all regulatory compliance requirements are met and maintained in the facilities including new or modified process permitting.  

Process Safety Management: Have a working knowledge of the standard and provide leadership in resolving issues identified in internal and external audits, and document review for continuous improvement of the implementation. Lead or participate in Process Hazard Analyses, Process Safety Startup Reviews, and participate as requested in Incident Investigations. 

Support Mechanical Integrity programs at Grand Rapids.

Support Process Technology efforts to improve the quality of the SBR PSI by generating technical documentation including PRD calculations.

Safety:  Support the Arkema culture of safety and Drive to Zero by actively participating in BBS, JSA, and hazard recognition programs.  Supports BBS process by performing observations.

Lead and manage all components in AIMS elements 5 and Element 4 sub elements 4.1 and 4.2 covering the topics of Risk Assessments, Change Management and CapEx purchases.

Develop procedures, policies and operator training material related to PSM, Mechanical Integrity, management of change etc.

Supports Loss Control Policy

All other duties as assigned

 

Context and environment

This is a plant-based role with additional responsibilities within the BU as directed by the Global Manufacturing Excellence Department.    

Accountabilities

The plant engineer is to review that plant level improvements directly implemented as well as proposed by other GR staff not only align with the Plant Specific Technology Plan but also comply with local, state and federal regulations as identified, including those listed in the OSHA standards table 1910.19 –1910.1000, 49CFR, and 29CFR.

 

Qualifications / experience required

  1. BS degree required.  Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  2. 5 -10 years of experience in a chemical manufacturing environment required.
  3. Hands on knowledge & experience with ISO, PSM, Mechanical Integrity programs.
  4. Proficient with computer spreadsheets and database applications, SAP software, Aspen software packages and Autocad.
  5. Proficient with PLC and DCS technologies. Some programming experience with these systems is preferred.
  6. Strong problem solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects as well as implement process improvement from concept through project completion (project management skills).
  7. Excellent communication skills.
  8. Proven background in industrial safety and environmental compliance
  9. Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and PHA Leader software
  10. Exposure to Lean Manufacturing techniques and Total Predictive Maintenance
