Arkema's Thiochemicals Division is seeking a field services position to perform catalyst sulfiding services and related activities on customer sites (oil refineries) in North America. The Field Service Specialist will become an expert at setting up, operating and troubleshooting equipment utilized in the performance of catalyst sulfiding at Arkema's oil refinery customers. Duties include direct supervision of subcontractors, direct customer interface related to unit start-up timeline, and the logistics of chemical and service equipment to the site, maintaining operating and delivery paperwork and operating portable pumps and gas analyzers as may be required. The postion is based in Houston, Texas.

 

Carelflex is Arkema’s catalyst activation service provided with the delivery of sulfiding chemical to customer sites. Transporting high pressure pumps and analyzers to or from refineries.  Conducting pre-job surveys at customer locations requiring entry into live process units.  Performing as a team member on a 12 hour shift for catalyst activation.  Must be able to work alone and unsupervised in the performance of Carelflex activities.  Supervising the Arkema Carelflex contractor on a customer site.  Includes direct contact with Arkema customers as the Arkema Carelflex Supervisor and/or Carelflex Site Coordinator, very likely on a solo basis.  Light maintenance and repair duties related to pump.  Analyzer set-up, start-up, operation, monitoring, troubleshooting and shutdown.  Collect relevant commercial information, such as the timing for the next sulfide activity at the site.
 

Key Activities and responsibilities 

  • Perform the duties of a Carelflex Specialist including:
  • Pre/Post-job walk through of process units at customer site (oil refineries). (10%-15%)
  • Trans loading dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) from trailer to trailer, hooking up nitrogen lines, flare lines, and product transfer lines between trailers and refinery units as appropriate to perform sulfiding injections, regulating flow rates during the chemical injection, recording all data as required on logs, connecting, operating and disconnecting high pressure pumps, adherence to all health, safety and environmental rules and requirements, set-up and operation of on-line analyzer equipment (40% -50%)
  • Hands on troubleshooting and equipment maintenance and management of all Carelflex equipment (High Pressure Pumps, H2S Analyzers, etc.) (05% to 10%)
  • Supervision of Arkema contractors performing Carelflex operations. (15%-20%)
  • Drive truck/trailer combination to deliver Carelflex Service equipment, safely navigate the delivery inside the refinery. (05 %)
  • Assistance with Specialist training requirements in the field (05%)
     

Context and environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • The Carelflex® Service Specialist is a Thiochemicals – DMDS business Carelflex support position that will be based at the Thio - Houston site. Regular interaction is expected with the North American Carelflex® team (Market Manager, Account Managers, Supply Chain/Customer Service, Carelflex Service Specialist, subcontractors.  The successful candidate will be proficient in sulfiding procedures, DMDS customer needs, and delivery processes for associated equipment, operating and troubleshooting equipment. Significant travel by car and possibly air will be necessary as responsibilities include work at any oil refinery in US and Canada.
  • The Carelflex Service Specialist performs on-site equipment mobilization, injection and demobilization activities involving tank trucks of dimethyl disulfide at the customer site and is not supervised on-site by an Arkema employee. Carelflex Service is performed within oil refineries and requires working a 12-hour shift with a partner Specialist. Strict adherence to safety procedures is a must. Working in oil refineries carries inherent safety risks associated with active chemical/refining industrial environments.
  • 30-50% travel in off peak seasons (8 months)
  • 70-90% travel in the peak seasons (4 months)
     

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • High School Diploma,
  • 2-year Technical degree and/or Process Operator Certificate preferred.
  • Direct experience in the shipping and receiving of bulk liquid hazardous materials
  • Demonstrated experience handling truck to truck and truck to process unit transfers of flammable and/or odorous chemicals a plus.
  • Training in safe work practices and personal protective equipment usage in industrial environments
  • Experience in chemical/refinery site turnaround activities a plus
  • Passing of a pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Ability to obtain TWIC and pass random drug/alcohol screening required
