TITLE: Engineering Intern

 

Arkema, Inc. is currently recruiting for a 2019 Summer Intern, majoring in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering.  We have a $3.5M Capital Budget and a lean organization. You will be exposed to projects from ideation, authorization, execution, and financial closing. A major function of this role will be following and observing the safe construction practices of all contractors on the 44 acre site, in conjunction with the Safety department.  The intern will take direction from a Principal Project Engineer with 38 years of experience in Industrial Construction and Project Management.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES 

As an intern you will have direct responsibilities for small Capital projects $10-50k:

  • Developing project basic data, scopes, estimates and schedules.
  • Preparing project appropriation request for Authorization
  • Preparing procurement strategy with Sourcing department
  • Updating monthly project schedule and financially progress in SAP  
  • Following the day-to-day construction and execution activities of the projects

 

For larger projects $100 -800k,  the Principal Project Engineer will have the primary accountability and responsibility.  The intern will have delegated responsibilities including:

  • Developing Gant charts for the integrated project schedule(s)
  • Following the construction activities in the field and updating Gant charts on a weekly basis to track project progress

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Majoring in engineering; Civil or Electrical Engineering preferred 
  • At least a sophomore 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Basic MS Office skills; this includes Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
