Based at Arkema's Corporate Offices and R&D Center in King of Prussia, PA, the Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for providing support for the King of Prussia site's Loss Control Programs, with a focus on Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Hygiene.  He/she also provides support for key HES initiatives and risk management practices.  The Health & Safety Specialist develops and supports programs and management systems are in place to meet Arkema and regulatory standards.

Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):


Health & Safety (90%)

  • Participate in efforts to improve HES performance by eliminating injuries, exposures, spills, and emissions.
  • Assist with the preparation of all HES reports for Arkema and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in and provide data for HES audits.
  • Consult with HES expertise groups to obtain clear interpretations of site-specific regulatory process, regulations, laws and associated procedures and update site applicability matrix.
  • Effectively deliver the regulatory guidance, required documentation, and training to the appropriate groups. 
  • Recognize and analyze HES risks present in the work environment and develops programs, procedures and /or work processes to mitigate those risks, based on experience level. 
  • Assist site Business Units in complying with HES requirements and effective implementation of the various global HES management systems, work processes, and data management systems.
  • Ensure safety training is scheduled and performed.
  • Participate in incident investigations and corrective action processes.
  • Participate in Behavior Based Safety program. 
  • Assist with the implementation of Contractor Management/Oversite Program. 
  • Assist with the administration of programs and inspections involved in company Risk Management and Insurance programs.
  • Participate in site Emergency Response Team.   
  • Support site safety programs at KoP, PA facility. 


Environmental (10%)

  • Working familiarity of environmental regulations (RCRA, wastewater, Air quality, etc.).



  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health, Chemistry or other related technical field is required.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the day-to-day management of safety and health with experience supporting locations that include sizable laboratory, research and office environments.
  • Strong computer skills needed (E-mail, word processing, Excel and PowerPoint experience).  Strong computer aptitude in the use of HES applications and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Adept in the development and implementation of HES work processes.
  • Excellent communication ability (written and verbal).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including good coaching skills
  • Planning and organizational talent.
  • Adaptable to changes.     
  • Capacity to work in a multi-cultural English-speaking environment and collaborate with global colleagues. 
  • Must be comfortable communicating and interacting with different levels of the organization (shop floor to middle management).
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make sound decisions.     
  • Self-directed with strong initiative and minimal oversight.
