Based at Arkema's Corporate Office and R&D Center in King of Prussia, PA, the NMR Scientist/Research Scientist supports R&D efforts in new product development and technical service through Arkema’s Analytical and Systems Research group.  He/she is responsible for NMR spectral interpretation of polymers, small molecules, catalysts, and complex multi-component systems.  The position reports to the R&D Manager and collaborates closely with colleagues within Arkema's Analytical and Systems Research group, including other NMR Scientist.


Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Position provides technical support in the area of NMR Spectroscopy to all Arkema Inc. R&D units, process technology, manufacturing plants, and HES groups
  • Completes workload within project timelines.  Provides data analysis only in context of submitted samples
  • Working under advice of senior NMR staff, modifies existing methods as required to complete analysis
  • Writes and issues technical reports with limited guidance from senior staff.
  • Serve on R&D project teams and collaborate with colleagues to solve problems spanning a diverse range of chemistries.
  • Helps maintain system reliability and continuity of service, probe hardware changes, minor probe maintenance.
  • Develops extensive professional network with Arkema Inc. scientists; actively participates in appropriate professional organizations. 
  • Develops knowledge of Arkema products and processes for the business units that are supported and a general understanding of business interests and markets.
  • Actively participate in Arkema’s safety programs and lead relevant safety projects as required.



  • MS in Chemistry or Polymer Sciences
  • 6 years of industrial experience with NMR operation and spectral interpretation including 2D NMR and heteronuclear NMR
  • Solid state NMR experience is a plus as is pulse sequence method development.
  • Experience with other analytical techniques highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Bruker spectrometers is also a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of collaboration and teamwork.
  • Self-starting ability with exceptional time and project management skills.
