As a member of the Corporate Industrial Safety Group (ISG), the Occupational Safety Lead is responsible for providing consultation and support to the sites regarding Arkema Occupational Safety and Health Programs, processes, and legal/internal requirements for plants within Arkema Inc. and its subsidiaries in North America.  He/she will serve as the Corporate Champion for Emergency Response providing expertise and facilitating training preparedness at Arkema North American sites.  Additionally, the Occupational Safety Lead will provide leadership, support and guidance for the Arkema Behavior Based Safety Process in North America.


Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide oversight, consultation and support regarding health and safety programs, processes, action plans, best practices, and regulatory/internal requirements across North America.
  • Conduct occupational risk assessments (i.e. Task Hazard Assessments, Ergonomic Assessments, etc.) as needed to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses and to improve workplace conditions and practices.
  • Provide consultation, guidance, and training facilitation support to plant Emergency Response Teams.  Interact with external local/regional/national emergency response organizations for coordinated Emergency Response activities involving Arkema facilities.  This will include establishing annual performance targets, metrics and goals for Arkema in Emergency Response. 
  • Lead and manage the overall Behavior Based Safety (BBS) process in Arkema by providing coaching and facilitating meetings/discussions with site BBS facilitators and team.  This also entails establishing planned campaigns, annual targets, data and metrics updates and improvement, BBS policy updates and completion of site BBS audits in Arkema. 
  • Develop effective training materials and/or deliver training to the plants on General Health and Safety related matters and/or AIMS. 
  • Conduct review, verification, and/or provide corrective action guidance/support of site action plans associated with audit findings and/or incidents.
  • Serve as initial Industrial Safety point of contact for assigned facilities. 
  • Provide field safety support to assigned sites and function as an “Arkema Emergency 2-call phone holder” (on call).  Provide support and/or leadership to Arkema GO Team for rapid support during significant unplanned events.
  • Compile and/or develop presentations to Arkema’s Senior Management on Health and Safety activities or initiatives as needed. 


Business travel (with potential to include Canada, Mexico, and South America) is estimated to be 50-60% of the time.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering or related fields is required.
  • 10-15 years of experience in chemical or related industries at a chemical plant.
  • Prior technical experience with safety and health management processes and program components.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is a plus.
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing operations and relevant federal and state regulations, including OSHA H&S Requirements and OSHA PSM.
  • Strong mastery of Behavior Based Safety and Safestart or similar programs
  • Certification and training in Industrial or Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting is a plus
  • Strong computer skills in the use of HES applications and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written), in addition to strong presentation and training facilitation skills.
