As a member of the Corporate Industrial Safety Group (ISG), the Process Safety Management (PSM) Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting compliance with internal and regulatory process safety management requirements (with a specialty in regulatory mechanical integrity) at Arkema’s plants in the USA, Mexico, Canada and South America.  He/she is responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory PSM/Mechanical Integrity requirements.

 

Specific job activities include (but are not limited to):

  • Develop and implement specific corporate PSM compliance programs that identify practical solutions for plants to comply with mechanical integrity, process safety information and other PSM elements.
  • Provide active in-field support to the plants to improve PSM compliance with an emphasis on supporting mechanical integrity, maintenance training, fire protection networks, safety controls, alarms and instrumentation projects, training, or similar activities to improve compliance.
  • Act as MI Lead Auditor (5-8 audits annually); auditing the PSM elements of Mechanical Integrity, Process Safety Information, Hot Work Permits as well as other elements as designated.
  • Provide sound, technical consultation and advice to various Capital Projects in the development of MI and PM plans.
  • Serve as an active participant in the Arkema Mechanical Integrity Community Network (MICN).
  • Participate on incident investigation teams pertaining to equipment failure events or similar.

 

Business travel is anticipated to be 50-60% travel (including periodic international travel).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of a BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, with detailed experience in auditing Mechanical Integrity and related programs as required by OSHA PSM (1910.119) and EPA RMP (29 CFR Part 68) Regulations.
  • Minimum of 15 years of process safety management experience in the chemical industry, preferably with significant in-plant experience; including at least 10 years of specific experience in Mechanical Integrity and auditing, with exposure to Chemical or Petrochemical processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral), and and must be capable of interacting successfully with diverse groups at all plant levels, including operators, supervisors, technical managers, and plant management.
  • Self-directed with a strong background in problem solving and development of creative cost-effective solutions.  This position requires the job holder to be able to accomplish assignments, goals, objectives and projects in a timely manner with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of process safety and risk management is required, including specifically the knowledge of regulatory and industry standards (such as ASME, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, API, etc.), ability to research specific issues of concern, ability to implement practical resolutions, and clear communication.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent prioritization and follow-up.
  • Ability to challenge and influence decision making to diverse groups at all technical levels such as plant management, regulatory agencies, other industry representatives, customers, technical consultants, contractors, engineers, etc.
  • Self-directed with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively navigate and work within in a global and culturally diverse environment.
