Job Dimensions

This position is responsible to provide R&D laboratory support for the development of new Arkema products or technologies related to Fluorochemicals, setting up small scale equipment and conducting experiments under established procedures and in compliance with Arkema safety policies and best practices, documenting and analyzing results, and maintaining the laboratory.  Initial focus will be to support the introduction of new refrigerants.  Candidate should have willingness to adapt lab support role based on business needs. 


Key activities and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Able to execute experiments in compliance with good laboratory practices and industrial standards, including interpretation of published methods and appropriate documentation
  • Able to interpret data and articulate results within work group as well as draw conclusions to help steer experimental planning
  • Safely handles hazardous materials, or materials of unknown hazards, using good laboratory practices
  • Generates and documents results to support product registration, technical literature, research direction, patent applications, etc
  • Ensures laboratory is maintained in good working order
  • Stays up to date on developments in processes, equipment, software, design and data analysis
  • Potential to participate in conferences, tradeshows, and industry trade organizations based on business needs and interests
  • Actively participates in Arkema’s safety programs and leads relevant safety projects as required


In addition, the position

  • Supports the site Health, Environmental and Safety (HES) policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements

  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)

  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

  • Conducts all work activities ethically and lawfully


Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

  • MS in Chemistry, Chem Eng, Mech Eng, or related technical field with 3+ years industrial experience, or BS in Chemistry, Chem Eng, Mech Eng with at least 5+ years industrial experience

  • Direct experience of design, construction, and/or operation of chemical or mechanical process or test systems with ability to support equipment and/or test system design, modifications, assembly, calibration and maintenance

  • Microsoft Office proficient, specifically with Power Point, Excel and other computer communication programs

  • Experience in safe handling of high hazard materials and/or processes


The following skill sets are preferred:

  • Experience in HVAC&R related fields

  • Experience with software packages such as REFPROP, ASPEN, basic programming (Matlab, Visual Basic, etc.), controlled automation such as Labview or Dasylab

  • Experience with CAD/CAM software packages such as Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Sketch-up, etc.


Demonstrated competencies:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of collaboration and teamwork

  • Proven record of being self-driven, proactive, and able to work with decreasing need for supervision
