The Senior Mechanical Engineer reports directly to the Director, Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CfME). This position is responsible for performing all aspects of assigned mechanical engineering projects.  The position requires extensive experience in mechanical (rotating and static) engineering and advanced engineering techniques and analysis.  This position will require minimal supervision.  The rotating equipment and vessel-piping-static engineer is responsible for supporting the design, fabrication, installation and maintaining of these equipment.  He/she will function as an Arkema Inc. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of Mechanical Engineering.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for providing coaching and support for less-experienced Mechanical Engineers.  Reviews and approves mechanical design of new small and large CapEx project and maintenance activities.  Supports the mechanical integrity and reliability of plant processes and equipment. 

 

Responsible for ensuring that all engineering, maintenance, and construction work is done safely and in accordance with plant and regulatory requirements.  General design and maintenance of Static and rotating equipment (Shell & Tube heat exchangers, Fin Fan coolers, Valves, Columns, vessels, Reactors, Tanks, pipe lines pumps, compressors and mixer etc…) 

  • Develop and implement rotating and static equipment maintenance and reliability strategies with the aim of optimizing maintenance programs and delivering reliability improvement.
  • Act as the Corporate Subject Matter Expert (SME) for rotating and static equipment and implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for all categories, thus establishing a regime of continuous improvement.
  • Coach and partner with rotating and static equipment engineers at the plant level.
  • Develop and implement a Defect Elimination process and a Root Cause Failure Analysis process with the aim of ensuring repeat defects and repeat failures are eliminated.
  • Provide design and maintenance support of rotating and fixed equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchanger, tanks, piping, valves, pumps, compressors, mixer etc...
  • Ensures that safety and loss control issues are considered and addressed for all engineering and maintenance activities. 
  • Facilitate innovative techniques to improve engineering design and maintenance efficiencies.  Ensures that the mechanical integrity of the plant is designed while meeting the operational & maintenance goals set by the plants/BU and the Corporate reliability teams. 
  • Drive corporate reliability improvement programs.  Develop improvement plans to reduce costs for mechanical equipment (rotating and static).   
  • Develop equipment specifications/data sheets and prepare technical requisitions, bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations. Support the corporate pipe spec development.
  • Approve designs/calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy and conformance to codes.
  • Review and approve fabrication drawings, specifications and other submittals for conformance.
  • Perform fieldwork necessary to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques and analysis to complex designs.

 

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent provides design and maintenance support of mechanical engineering assignments at the BU/plant level. He/she supports Reliability and Maintenance Managers, Engineers, and Supervisors to enhance the reliability of the operating units.  The incumbent must comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, safety, environmental, and quality standards, and corporate policies.  The incumbent must also comply with internal policies & procedures related to capital, accounting, signature authority, purchasing, safety, environmental, etc.

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS /WORK EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering and 12-15 years of experience in chemical and petrochemical operations, process design, and/or engineering. 
  • A significant understanding of the technical standards, codes and specifications for the design, maintenance and operation of all categories of rotating and static equipment within the chemical industry. 
  • Deep knowledge of ASME, NFPA, API and ANSI code is required
