The Senior Analyst, Bulk Transportation reports to the Strategic Purchasing Manager, Domestic Transportation, along with 1 Transportation Purchasing Analyst.  This position has no direct reports.


Job Dimensions

The Senior Analyst for Bulk Transportation assists with the management of organizations’ Tank Truck, Bulk Intermodal & Isotank business and coordinates opportunities and synergies for Arkema’s Business Units. Direct the purchase of > $55 MM in bulk transportation.  Directly involved with management of the organizations’ Tank Truck, Bulk Intermodal & IsoTank traffic.

 Key Activities and Responsibilities

  1. Manages the performance of Arkema’s bulk transportation suppliers. Ensures that the organizations’ suppliers meet regulatory, safety, capacity and cost requirements.  (30)
  2. Assists Strategic Purchasing Mgr. Domestic Transportation with negotiations for Arkema’s Tank Truck, Bulk Intermodal and ISO Tank business. (30%)
    - Develops and negotiates freight rates, prepares request for bids, evaluates proposals, drafts contracts, coordinates legal review and executes final contracts.
    - Develops freight contracting plans, which requires data collection and analysis based on benchmark sampling, and an understanding of vendor and competitor profiles.
    - Conducts cost studies to develop negotiating leverage, evaluate alternatives, reduce costs, and improve equipment utilization.
    - Maintains various databases and information on freight rates and costs.
    - Monitors industry and regulatory trends.
  3. Generates & acts on savings opportunities in the areas of Bulk Transportation through negotiations, optimization of transport as well as project management with Arkema’s Business Units. (25%)
  4. Manages rates & routes for Arkema’s bulk transportation suppliers within the organization’s Transportation Management System (TMS). (10%)
  5. Composes and distributes shared learning communications to bulk carriers for incident reduction purposes (5%)


Context and Environment

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents


Required Education / Qualifications / Work Experience

  • Degree in business, logistics/supply chain or related work experience in the area of Transportation
  • Minimum 8 years business experience and understanding of the supply chain, project management and contract negotiations.
  • Knowledge of legal and environmental issues as they relate to Logistics is helpful.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) preferred.  SAP software experience preferred.
