JOB DIMENSIONS

 

Leads Technical Services activities for North American Automotive, Industrial and major markets for the Specialty Polyamides business unit; Demonstrates expertise in Rilsan® PA-11, Rilsamid® PA-12 and Orgalloy® PA Alloys product lines; Leads the technical aspects of business development projects; Collaborates with global R&D, Sales, Business Development and Manufacturing teams to improve current product, develop new solutions, generate additional business and improve quality; Travel regularly in North America to conduct technical assistance or travel abroad.

 

Key Activities and responsibilities

 

  • Safety
    • Safety is paramount in daily work practices. The individual should be experienced in laboratory work and be familiar with standard laboratory health and safety practices.
    • Respects the site safety protocol and participates regularly in safety programs and initiatives.
    • Actively promotes safe behavior, and takes responsibility for personal safe lab operation.

 

  • Technical Service expert on Rilsan®, Rilsamid® and Orgalloy® material
    • Achieves efficiency and excellence in technical service to existing customers.
    • Provides answers to internal and external customers on the best use of our products.
    • Conducts technical assistance at our customers location
    • Organizes and analyzes data, explains conclusions/outcomes to management, customers, and commercial personnel. Make suggestions for future investigations
    • Conducts Extrusion and Injection Molding trials as well as basic property characterization.
    • Ability to interact with the mechanical and analytical test laboratories.
    • Able to track project activities, and setting estimated completion dates of activities, consulting and seeking clarification to get job done correctly, accountable for tracking of all materials and data associated with project, and offer suggestions and improvements to processes.

 

  • Support Sales and Development
    • Provides an honest assessment of project feasibility.
    • Provides colleagues and customers with the best potential solution to fill a market requirement.
    • Provides insight, allowing colleagues to extract the value proposition of our product in a given application.
    • Works closely with the Business counterparts to bring our products successfully to the marketplace.
    • Participates in development of regional BU growth strategies.

 

  • Investigate customer complaint.
    • Conducts fair assessments with our colleagues at the plant to determine the root cause of the complaint.
    • Proposes corrective actions and advocates for their implementation at the plant and/or customer site.
    • Identifies potential root causes of customer deficiencies and seeks to improve their knowledge, or processing capabilities.

 

  • Lead the technical activities to support new business development
    • Exhibits a deep understanding of market technical requirements and Specialty Polyamides solutions.
    • Develops new technologies and formulations to adapt our current products to new applications and new markets.
    • Develops fundamental understanding to relate how process and material characteristics influence performance properties on the finished products.
    • Identify and quantify product improvement opportunities.
    • Plan industrial trials to produce new materials.
    • Establish material formulation and control plan

 

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements
  • Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)
  • Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents
  • 10 - 30% travel  to different U.S. sites
  • General Research & Development environment; may be exposed to noises, fumes, etc. and when visiting plant sites
  • Management of high level technical products requires an adequate level of technical expertise to determine root cause and propose corrective actions
  • Tolled products will become more important in our global portfolio and will represent a higher risk to the business in terms of compliance with technical standards.  Coordination with technical, quality and production resources in Asia and Europe is a key component of this position.
  • International travel is required – 1 to 2 trips per year.
  • Customers’ needs require strong accuracy, timeliness and technical writing
  • Dynamic position that works with Customers, Sales, Business Development, Production and Quality Engineering, Corporate Marketing and R&D to assure that our products are used in accordance with good manufacturing practices and within the limitations of the polymers capabilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • BS in Engineering, preferably related to material science, polymer chemistry or polymer processing
  • 1 - 5 years of experience in chemical industry, thermoplastic polymers and expertise in the field of polymer processing
  • Ability to adapt to the various needs of our customers
  • Can act as a project leader, need to respect milestone and deadline and bring novel idea to drive innovation.
  • Capable of operating with a long-term vision (strategically), and day-to-day (tactically).
  • Ability to drive new business through balancing the technical requirements with customer/market requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to solve problems logically, make sound conclusions, communicate effectively, and propose new ideas for growth.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Has ability to make effective presentations to multiple levels within the company.  Is able to express both verbally and in writing complex concepts, thoughts and idea clearly and concisely.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
