Job Title: Production Supervisor

 

Situation in organization

 

This position reports to the Operations Manager. Direct reports include 20-25 chemical operators.

This position works closely with Site management, maintenance personnel, production personnel, Process Engineer, Production Engineer, and Shipping personnel to ensure a smooth operation between all personnel involved and plant operations.

 

Job dimensions

 

Financial Data: Responsible for all functions of operators’ activities related to day to day plant production activities.

Production: Coordinate production activities for the Hydrogen and Hydrogen Peroxide units within the Memphis plant.

People Data: Ensure all subordinates are properly trained in their jobs duties- safety training and environmental training. Schedule such training and work activities. Ensure operators are in compliance with plant HES procedures and practices throughout the plant. Manages compliance with plant attendance, performance, and OT policies.   

Key Activities and responsibilities

 

Operations (70%)

Accountable for safe and uninterrupted plant operations.

Provide guidance and technical support to ensure production goals are met.

Provide consistent direction and instruction to shift Operators in matters of plant operations and job performance.

Prioritize maintenance activities for the Hydrogen and Hydrogen Peroxide units.

Coordinate activities involved in special projects for the production units.

Separate facts from opinions and communicate remedial action consistently to all operating shifts n troubleshooting situations.

Work with Logistics Supervisor to achieve 100% on time shipments of all finished products.

Supervise and audit policies and procedures.

Assure that product quality meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Interface with all other departments within the plant to insure smooth operations.

Works closely with Production Engineer in plant troubleshooting and knowledge management.

Responsible for efficient use of manpower and scheduling OT to control costs.

Abide by the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and properly respond to grievances.

Assist in maintenance activities during the plant shutdowns.

Safety and Training (30%)

Implement training for employees in the production department to facilitate performance of their job functions in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

Insure all Operators stay qualified on all jobs they have trained and qualified for.

Supervise and motivate Operators on Safety, BBS and Housekeeping programs.

Constantly drive improvements in the Safety and Behavior culture among operators.

Insure proper response to emergency situations.

Counsel Operators regarding behavior and job performance.

 

Context and environment

 

Supports the site HES policy and complies with all regulatory and internal requirements

Participates in HES activities provided by site management and Arkema Inc. (e.g., Behavioral Base Safety, SafeStart, etc.)

Supports and promotes the reporting of all health, safety, environmental, near-miss, accident or injury incidents

10% or less travel required

Required Education/Qualifications /Work experience

 

 

BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering and one (1) year experience in chemical manufacturing environment or HS diploma and minimum five (5) years supervisory experience in chemical manufacturing or ten (10) years of experience in plant operations.

 

Demonstrated Competencies

 

Fosters a professional work environment by reinforcing plant rules and Code of Ethics with strong internal and external customer focus.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Strong commitment to HES and BBS.

Ability to adapt and learn quickly.

Able to coach and develop operators.
