The Pilot Plant Techncian is responsible, under the direction of the Manager,  for safe operation of the Pilot Plant and related equipment.  This includes loading, running and monitoring of established and new chemical processes, equipment and all related recordkeeping.  Activities include:

Safety 

  • Adheres to all HSE policies and procedures including participation in safety meetings, management of chemicals, and upkeep of facilities. Completes trainings as required.
  • Diligently monitors work area/equipment for safe operation and maintains good housekeeping.  Reports any issues to maintenance department and/or supervisor. Enters work orders, issues safe work permits, and follows through on ongoing issues to completion.

Material Handling 

  • Procures, weighs and loads raw material into processes, reactors and associated equipment.
  • Performs various material handling activities, including moving drums, pails, bags and other storage devices using pumps, hoses and other conveying devices.

Process Monitoring 

  • Runs established and new chemical processes using reactors and associated equipment within the Pilot Plant. Follows Standard Operating Procedures for all operations. Utilizes Distributed Control System (DCS) to run and monitor equipment/processes.
  • Communicates effectively with shift relief, lab personnel, and plant management as necessary. Keeps detailed batch logs, records, and maintains accurate records of inventory used.

Improvements 

  • Makes meticulous observations and reports findings to supervisor to improve processes as needed.

The position is located within a manufacturing site with environmental , chemical, physical ergonomic and electrical hazards which require the proper us of PPE including respirator and sef-contained breathing apparatus (occasional).  Requires occasional off-shift and weekend hours.

The successful candidate will have:

  • high school diploma, some college education preferred.
  • minimum of 5 years experience in the chemical operations industry.
  • basic computer skills 
  • organizational and strong communication skills along with a team player attitude.
  • independent thoughts willing to share ideas respectfully.
