The Process Engineer owns the process unit and holds the technical expertise to support the production of monomer/oligomer in our West Chester, PA plant.  The Unit Owner, in partnership with production and reliability personnel, and under the direction of the Process Engineering Manager, drives the process to be the best in class (internal and external competition) in process performance.  The incumbent provides effective and timely technical troubleshooting for production support and is on-call 24/7.  The position reports directly to the Plant Process Engineering Manager and works closely with safety, wastewater, MI/Reliability and Maintanance.   The incumbent serves as resource on Pad related issues and provides guidance to operators and supervisors for improved safety and production performance.  Duties may include:

Plant Support

Plant technical support, under the guidance of the engineering manager, activities include:

  • Troubleshoot to ensure reliable and continuous operation of the production units during normal and abnormal operations.
  • Work and understand the capabilities and limitations of the process and equipment.  Work closely with the production and reliability personnel.
  • Monitor production units performance, safety, quality, mass balance & metrics, yield, OAU, variable and fixed cost. Conduct RCAs and follow-up on the actions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and develop optimal solution.
  • Participate in daily cross-functional production meetings.
  • Work closely with reliability & maintenance personnel to improve reliability of equipment and availability of critical spare parts.
  • Provide support for the control system.
  • Develop training for production and maintenance personnel.
  • Networking with sister plants and Technology Division.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement appropriate solutions to improve the plant performance: total manufacturing cost including variable and fixed costs, safety, product quality, and commercialization of new products in a timely & effective manner. Investigate and introduce new technologies to improve the plant capabilities & performance for new products. Develop projects with supervision including scope, implementation plan, and resource requirements. Define and support technical programs. Plan and coordinate trials and analyze results. Prepare basic packages

New Products:

  • Support the scale-up, trials, and commercialization of the new products that add value to the business. Develop cost effective and safe manufacturing strategies, and identify upgrade needed to commercialize new products.

HES support :

  • Participate actively in all events related to safety, health, and environment to ensure safe practices, safe workplace, and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Initiate & implement activities to improve the plant performance in this area. Conduct MOC, element champion for PSM, lead or participate in PHAs, conduct/participate in SAs, JSAs, MSM, and other corporate or plant initiatives Develop a good understanding of the pollution control equipment used in the process and ideas for improvement of their performance.

Quality & Customer Service Support:

  • Participate actively in the continuous improvement of the Quality System to ensure production and shipping good quality product that meets or exceeds the customer expectations. Investigate and resolve customer complaints, prepare monthly reports and presentations for indicator review meetings, assist in implementing corrective/preventive actions, communicate with sales/customers/customer/ service/plant.

The successful candidate has:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering,
  •  2+ years industry experience in plant or engineering discipline or related experience,
  • Proven ability to influence actions and mindset in leadership team framework,
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; project management skills,
  • Training in incident investigation techniques,
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office; IMPACT Enterprise software desirable, and
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Six-sigma training highly preferred
  • RCA certification, highly preferred
  • PHA certification, highly preferred
